Newport in South Wales lies at the border to England between Bristol and Cardiff. The river Usk splits the small town. After arrival, we walked down towards the Newport Transporter Bridge, but I have to admit, there is not much to see – also the area around the bridge is not very welcoming or entertaining. Back in the centre it was time for kickoff.
Newport County‘s ground is just a short walk across the pedestrian bridge and a good mix of old and renovated stands. The main stand is just great and old fashioned with the overhanging roof. The „fanzone“ (still don’t like the word) is accessible even during halftime, which is always great. And the atmosphere among the young support behind the players benches was vey good.
I would really recommend the Tiny Rebel brewpub, which we went after the match.
