The journey from the Serbian town Nîs to North Macedonia‘s capital Skopje took around 2,5 hours with the pleasant border control. Our rental car company Alamo ensured us by the additional payment of 50€ (in addition to the 200€ one way fee) that our car can enter Macedonia, but they could not issue a green card. So we needed to pay another 50€ to get that famous insurance money card. Only to drive the last 40km and park our car at our hotel for the last night of the trip. The Hotel Skopje (next to the Zoo) was very friendly and they let us park there in front of the hotel even though we only had a reservation for the next day.
From our hotel we organised a return trip to the match between FK Vardar and FK Teteks. Vardar are the biggest club in the country and record champions, however due to the end of a Russian investor ownership they went into political problems and got relegated to the 2nd tier. That’s why that they also not play currently in the national stadium, which would have been in walking distance from our hotel.
So, Vardar plays currently in a suburb of Skopje. The Boris Trajkovski stadium is another slightly rundown ground, but not comparable to the one the previous day in Nîs.
At halftime we had a great kebab up the road towards the small suburb centre.
The ultras of Vardar were in full voice the more the game advanced. Great LÄNDERPUNKT.
